Montclair State University senior Erik Helverson has mainteined a 4.0 average while working towards a degree in German language studies. Prior to attending Montclair, Erik Helverson was an active undergraduate at Gettysburg College.
While there, he founded the Wheels club, an extra-curricular activity that organized interactive events at a local national park for transportation enthusiasts. He further demonstrated his leadership capabilities through his role as a lead and recruitment chair for the Gettysburg Sigma Nu chapter. He also represented the chapter during Inter-Fraternity Council meetings.
To expand his worldview and develop his language skills, he has participated in study abroad programs over the course of his academic career. Before starting at Gettysburg, he attended a leadership program set in the Czech Republic. During the summer of 2017, he traveled to Tokyo, Japan with Temple University’s study abroad program. Most recently, he studied German at the University of Graz in Austria. His studies were funded by the Anita Magistro Udell Scholarship, which is awarded to foreign language majors.
